Material Library
The physical archive of formulas
Every glaze we make lives here, mounted in a grid with its formula number engraved. We formulate them ourselves in our workshop from natural oxides and minerals — nothing comes from a generic catalogue. At Casa ZURCO architects touch the real sample before specifying; this page is its digital version.
What we work with
High-fired stoneware
We start from a ceramic body designed to be fired at 1,220 °C — the temperature at which the material vitrifies and stops being porous. That is what allows a ZURCO piece to live indoors or outdoors without cracking or absorbing moisture. This is not the body used for tableware or light décor: it is built to carry weight, traffic and weather, like a construction material.
How we make it
In-house glazes, formulated in the workshop
We don't buy industrial catalogue glazes. We formulate each one from natural oxides and minerals, testing proportions until we reach the colour and texture we want. Every piece is made and glazed by hand, so the way the glaze reacts to heat varies slightly from one firing to the next — which is why no piece is identical to the last. That variation is not a defect we correct: it is proof that the glaze is real, not printed.
The process
From formula to finished piece
01
Formulation
We blend natural oxides and minerals until we reach the exact colour and texture.
02
Hand-formed
Every piece is formed and finished by hand, one by one — not on an automated line.
03
Glazing
We apply our own glaze by hand on the raw piece, before firing.
04
Firing
1,220 °C. The body vitrifies and the glaze reveals its final colour.
